Cover-ups are some of the most rewarding work in the studio. Whether it's an old name, a holiday tattoo that didn't go to plan, or a piece that just doesn't reflect who you are anymore — almost every existing tattoo can be reimagined into a custom design you'll actually want to wear. Sina specialises in cover-ups using blackwork, dense illustrative work and bold floral designs, all of which give the most predictable results.
Every cover-up starts with a confidential consultation. Send a clear, well-lit photo of the existing tattoo via the booking form and Sina will give you honest feedback on what's realistic — including whether a couple of laser sessions beforehand would give your final design more freedom. There's no judgement and no pressure: the goal is a result you're genuinely happy with, not a sale.
How a cover-up actually works
Honest assessment first
Before any design work, Sina reviews the existing tattoo and tells you what's realistic. If laser would help, you'll hear that upfront — not after a deposit.
Custom-built around what's there
Cover-up designs aren't picked from flash. Each one is custom-drawn so the new shapes and dark tones do the work of hiding the old piece naturally.
Full discretion
Every consultation is private. Photos and references stay confidential. The goal is a result you're proud of — Sina has covered everything from regretted names to faded holiday souvenirs.
Common questions about cover-ups
-
In most cases, yes. The result depends on the size, age, ink darkness and placement of the existing tattoo. Send a clear, well-lit photo via the booking form and Sina will tell you honestly what is realistic before you commit.
-
Usually yes. A cover-up needs to be slightly bigger than the original to give the new design room to flow naturally, and it relies on darker tones to mask underlying ink. Sina will design something that fits your aesthetic — most clients are surprised at how flexible cover-ups can be.
-
Not always. Many tattoos can be covered without any laser sessions. For very dark, very recent, or very dense pieces, two or three light laser sessions can give the cover-up much more design freedom. Sina will say upfront if pre-treatment is recommended.
-
Cover-ups are billed at the standard rate of £70 per hour or £400 for a full day, plus the non-refundable deposit. Most cover-ups take one or two sessions depending on size and complexity.
-
No. Cover-ups are one of the most common reasons people walk into the studio. Every consultation is private and judgement-free — the goal is to build something you actually want to show off.
